Educational Accommodation Procedures for Physical
Accessibility
When a faculty or staff member
receives an accommodation request from a student with a disability
which addresses a physical accessibility (e.g. alteration) issue
within a classroom or instructional lab, the following procedures
should be implemented:
-
The faculty member
should immediately notify the area dean or manager.
-
The area dean will
confirm the request and contact the Adaptive Services Center (ASC)
to determine if the student has an active file and to confirm the
justification of the request.
-
The ASC will
contact the Director of Physical Plant/Facilities who will assign
a high priority status to complete the accommodation within a
reasonable timeframe as is required by state and federal mandates.
-
The plan to meet
the requested accommodations will be forwarded to ASC, the faculty
member, the area dean or manager, and the Director of Equity and
Diversity.
-
The Director of
Equity and Diversity should make the necessary budget allowances
related to the costs of providing the accommodation.
-
A centralized
record should be kept on file in the Director of Physical
Plant/Facilities’ office and maintained for audit trail purposes.
Please Note:
Not all students with disabilities are registered with the ASC.
Educational accommodations are mandated whether or not the student
is an active ASC student. However, the student is required to
provide appropriate verification of disability to the college in
order for the college to determine a reasonable accommodation. The
ASC specialists are available to review the documentation and to
make a recommendation.
If an accommodation is requested that falls outside of these
parameters to the extent that the accommodation requested involves
construction or physical alterations to campus facilities and
equipment, the request will be forwarded to the ADA Advisory Group
to establish appropriate guidelines to fill the request.
Educational Accommodation Procedures for Academic Computing

Services Center (ASC) to determine if the student has an active
file and to confirm the justification of the request.
-
The ASC will contact the Director of Academic Computing who will assign a high
priority status to complete the accommodation within a reasonable
timeframe as is required by state and federal mandates.
-
The plan to meet the requested accommodations will be forwarded to
ASC, the faculty member, the area Dean, and the Director of Equity
and Diversity.
-
The Director of Equity and Diversity should make the necessary
budget allowances related to the costs of providing the
accommodation.
-
A centralized record should be kept on file in the Director of
Academic Computing’s office and maintained for audit trail
purposes.
